Cowboy Days: Music and Stories of their vanished World

Cowboy Days ©Marie Dücker

Date: November 12, 2024 | Time: 10:00–11:30 a.m. | Place: HS 34.K1, Attemsgasse 25

The new program “Cowboy Days” features the authentic cowboy music collected by John Avery Lomax which is preserved at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.  This music is presented with dramatic scenes adapted from the stories of a young cowboy on his first trail drive which Lomax described as “the best cowboy stories ever written” and is the latest project now offered.  It is being presented both in Austria and abroad through  the U.S. Embassy programs American Shelves, American Spaces and various universities and libraries.

PAUL KRESHKA is an Austrian-American singer, actor, and musician.  He began playing the banjo as a child growing up in California.  He studied acting at the Juillard School in New York, toured nationally playing  Shakespeare,  and was a member of the Berkeley Shakespeare Festival.  He was the original percussionist on and off Broadway in the musical “Strider” and appeared in Joe Papp’s “Shakespeare in the Park”.  In Austria he is known as a singer of various popular styles and with his band “Five In Love” has toured swing music internationally as well as appearing in Austria.

ILENE KRESHKA studied ballet at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and danced with various ballet companies and on Broadway.  She was for many years associated with the American writer and choreographer Agnes De Mille.  Since coming to Austria, she has appeared in many plays including “The Belle of Amherst”, which also toured through Germany, a one-woman show about the life and work of Emily Dickinson.  She has worked in films, television, and commercials.
