On 11 June 2026, the first Creative Open Mic Night: Words & Art took place at the English and American Studies Library. Anna Lorenzon and Lea Pešec, both PhD students at the Department of American Studies and instructors of Introduction to Literary Studies, organized the event with the idea that students’ creativity deserves a space beyond the classroom to be shared and celebrated. No place was better suited to this purpose than the department library. Surrounded by books, in a setting that reminded some of a train car, students and university staff read their creative works and displayed visual art in the form of photographs and video poetry. Words and art filled the air of that warm spring afternoon, which concluded with a relaxed conversation in which participants had the opportunity to get to know one another.
The organizers thank the staff of the Department of American Studies for their organizational assistance, as well as Herr Lukas Pletz from the English and American Studies Library for his support.
We look forward to the next Open Mic Night and other creative events! Stay tuned for more!
